House & Techno in East London
For years, East London has been infamous for warehouse and underground raves. Clubbers flock here to hear some of the newest sounds, see up and coming DJs, and meet hundreds of like-minded revellers. If you don’t mind the heat, the noise and the overcrowding, it can be a euphoric experience. With the music filling your ears, the bass filling your chest and lights filling your eyes, it stimulates your senses to the extreme.
Around this area, there has been a fair share of trouble caused by illegal raves too. Noise complaints from neighbours have caused police and council officers to storm venues and close parties down on plenty of occasions. But for those of you who just want to dance, there is good news; East London still has loads of events that are completely legitimate and above board, with some of the best house and techno DJs in the world. Aldgate taxis in E1 know the area well, so they’ll be able to take you right to the venue on your night out; it’s a good idea to book an Aldgate minicab in advance for your return journey too, as raves usually go on until the early hours of the morning (well after the tubes have stopped running). Chances are you will have had a few drinks too, so driving yourself won’t be an option! Remember to keep well hydrated when you’re dancing in the heat; you’ll need to drink plenty of water throughout the night.
The Rhythm Factory on Whitechapel Road has some brilliant events, playing everything from house and techno to dubstep and drum & bass, rock and indie bands to acoustic nights. The venue has been called “pioneering” by The Big Issue, and “the barometer of London’s musical trends” by the Guardian. Although the bar and club are fairly small and basic, they have hosted enough big nights and big names to build a great reputation for themselves.
This Saturday is one for all the house and techno lovers; Adam Marshall is flying over from Canada to headline at Mode:Play, which starts at 10pm. Tickets are £10 on the door, and you’ll need ID to prove that you’re over 18 for entry.
