Rockertinkler: Theatre for Grown Ups

We all know the story of 'Phantom of the Opera', 'Chicago' and 'Les Miserables'; they’ve been huge hits in the West End, drawing theatre lovers from all over the country. But when was the last time you went to see a new show? When did you last see a show that made you laugh AND think? Having a huge chorus, impressive light displays and million pound stage sets is all very well, but it can make you forget about the true essence of theatre.

If you fancy doing something a bit different, head to The Space on the Isle of Dogs this weekend. This Performing Arts and Community centre in East London has been converted from a 19th century church. Still with its beautiful facade, the building now plays host to a range of new productions from up and coming actors and directors, musicians and comedians. On the 5th, 6th, 11th and 12th of February, you can catch 'Rockertinkler' at 8pm. This two man show has a little bit of everything: philosophy, comedy, music and even a cheeky bit of nudity. What more could you ask for?! Take a Canary Wharf taxi in E14 to get you there in time.

The show is written and performed by Lee White (who you might recognise from cameos in Eastenders, the Bill and Extras) and Daniel Ashman; trained actors, drunken philosophers and downright funny men. The story follows unemployed Max in a tale of rags to riches; he wants to heal the world and spread the wealth fairly, but when he inherits a fortune from JJ Rockerchild, what will he do? With some hilarious turns of events and some tragic ones, you find yourself considering human nature and your own morals.

We see a wide range of characters from our two stars, and are introduced to the sounds of Stuart Smith. Directed by Kezia Cole, 'Rockertinker' is well worth a watch. Find out more on the Rockertinkler website.
