The London Marathon

You’ve probably heard about it by now; it’s that time of year again when hundreds of fit, motivated people put me to shame by running the London Marathon. Not only will they be displaying an impressive amount of endurance, but they’ll also collectively be raising thousands of pounds for some of the world’s most worth causes and charities. Almost all of us know of someone who will be taking part in the 26 mile run or has done so in the past; if, like me, you don’t have it in you to take part yourself, you can still get involved by sponsoring someone.

The marathon is taking place this Sunday, 17th April. Expect there to be road closures and large crowds throughout the city; this isn’t the time to go sight seeing on an open top tour bus. It’s a good idea to check your route before ordering a Shoreditch taxi , because you might find that you can’t travel somewhere directly. There are also some planned tube closures while TFL works on upgrading the underground network. You can join in by cheering on the runners from the sidelines, showing them your support and encouragement, or you can follow their progress on television. Let’s just hope it doesn’t rain!

I have wondered whether or not I’d ever be able to achieve something like running the London marathon; perhaps if I had the right trainer, enough determination and a fairy godmother... no, I think even then I would keel over within the first two miles. I shall have to stick to making a donation! Those who have successfully completed the marathon should be proud of themselves - it’s no mean feat. We wish the best of luck to all of those taking part, and will be rooting for you on Sunday!
