Natural History Museum Ice Rink

Is it that time of year again already? Really? It’s hard to believe that in just two months time, Christmas will be upon us. It may be a tad too early to start digging out the tinsel and warbling carols, but there’s no denying that London is now in winter’s grip. Temperatures are a-droppin’, and over-eager mothers are a-shoppin’!

Over the course of the year, several events take place at the Natural History Museum. You’ll find it in South Kensington, just round the corner from the Science Museum. Nothing is quite as exciting as their winter display though... they have a 1000 square metre ice rink! The surrounding trees are filled with fairy lights to make the scene even more magical, and there’s a smaller rink for the kiddies to play on. Tickets cost between £8.00 and £13.00, depending on whether you go on or off peak. A taxi in South Kensington can drop you off any time. There will be special sessions scheduled for wheel-chair users; check the Natural History Museum website for up to date information.

You can go along any time from 5 November (Bonfire night) until early January 2011. If you don’t fancy getting your skates on, you can watch from the comfort of the cafe, which serves hot chocolate and mulled wine to warm your cockles. Getting there should be cosy too if you book a Kensington taxi; much better than negotiating with icy pavements!
