Christmas in Covent Garden

Covent Garden is one of those magical places that is just as popular with Londoners as it is with tourists. Few can resist its charm; the street performers on the square draw crowds, gasps and applause. People love browsing the quaint shops and boutiques around the old market, even if they’re not looking for anything in particular. On top of that, there are more than 60 bars and restaurants in the area, so you’ll never go hungry!

One thing that makes Covent Garden even more magical than usual is Christmas. This district really goes all out for the festive season, and it all kicks off in November. You’ll be wanting to get a taxi in WC2 to make sure you don’t miss out on this! First of all, there will be some incredible lighting displays. We’re not just talking a few strings of fairy lights; this will be uber-illumination, enough to take your breath away! Designer Paul Cocksedge has created a different kind of activation to switch them on: two people will be chosen to kiss under the mistletoe to light up the display.

There is something for everyone in Covent Garden at Christmas. Kids will love the reindeer petting enclosure, and parents will enjoy the mulled wine. Explore the stalls for sweet treats and hot chocolate, and enjoy the heavenly sounds of traditional choirs. If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of your favourite music star; over the festive period, stars take part in a series of secret gigs on the piazza, called ‘Super Busking’. Last year saw Keane and The Saturdays turn up unannounced, so it’s definitely worth a look.

Bloomsbury cabs will be doing plenty of runs to Covent Garden this season, so make sure you book one for your day out. Remember to wrap up warm against the British weather - Bloomsbury taxis will only keep out the cold until you get there!
