War Horse
If you’re anything like us, you may be struggling to get back into the swing of things after your lovely holiday break. Work to do, bills to pay, perhaps you’ve got essays to write or a gym membership to make use of. Doesn’t sound like much fun, does it? Luckily, there are plenty of exciting things to do in London all year round - you don’t have to wait until Easter!
The novel ‘War Horse’ came out back in 1982, and might be familiar to those who studied it on their school syllabuses. However, the story has truly been bought to life lately with a critically acclaimed stage production at New London Theatre. A life-sized horse puppet might not sound very convincing, but you have to see it to believe it; you’ll soon find yourself lost in the setting of the First World War. It’s exhilarating in some parts and will move you to tears in others. Covent Garden minicabs can take you over to Drury Lane where the performance is currently showing.
If theatre is not your bag, fear not; this week, movie master Steven Spielberg is releasing his blockbuster film version of ‘War Horse’ at cinemas across the United Kingdom. Animal lovers will enjoy having a great big horse as the main focus of the film, though may find the battle scenes a little hard to take; because it’s based during the war, there is a fair amount of violence. Some have criticized it as being too fluffy and one dimensional, but plenty of people have already fallen in love with the novel and the theatre production, with this next on their list to see. If you’re not a fan of wartime dramas or horses, we wouldn’t recommend this one - but if you like a bit of horseplay, jump in a taxi to Leicester Square this weekend.
