Disney Princess Parade!
Okay. Take a deep breath. Remain calm. Count to three... and now squeal like a banshee with child-like excitement! It’s the Disney Princess Parade in London this weekend! I’m sure not everyone is as fond of old Walt’s creations as I am, but it’s not very often that a Disneyland style event takes place here in the city. This is great news for families with young children, or anyone whose DVD collection looks like it belongs to a five year old girl. Like mine does.
The parade takes place at 1.00pm this Sunday 2nd October in Kensington Gardens, and the weather is due to be ideal; blue skies, sunshine and highs of 29 degrees Celsius. Now that’s what I like to see. Make sure you request air conditioning in the Kensington minicab you book... you’ll be glad you did! Although it will in fact be well into Autumn, you’ll still need to stock up on suncream to avoid looking ‘lobster chic’.
The Disney Princess Parade lasts for half an hour, and in the first event of this type London has seen, Rapunzel (the main character from ‘Tangled’) will be crowned the 10th Disney Princess to join the ‘Royal Court’ along with other cartoon beauties such as Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Ariel and Pocahontas. It’s a free event for fans - young and old - to go along and cheer, dance, look pretty... whatever makes you feel good! If your little ones have any princess fancy dress costumes, this is the perfect opportunity to whip it out. Bear in mind it will probably get tugged of in the heat before long though.
If you’re not into Disney (which must be very few of you, surely), there are plenty of parks in London that won’t have any princesses in them. Most of them are just grass, trees and a few dogs and frisbees. But let’s be honest - at temperatures like this, you’re going to be happy anywhere outdoors.
