Summer Music Festivals
Every summer, the United Kingdom is dominated by outdoor music events and festivals. The combination of friends, sunshine and live music is a winning combination, and literally makes for a lot of happy campers! This year we've been blessed by numerous sunny weekends, which really can determine whether you have a great time or a damp disappointment.
Some of the largest and most popular festivals have already taken place, and have been a rip roaring success. Glastonbury had some of the best weather it's ever seen - such a relief after years of rain turning Worthy Farm into a mud swamp! Wellington boots had become an essential at Glasto, but this year they weren't needed. Celebrating it's 40th birthday, the legendary festival even had a visit from Prince Charles to commemorate the occasion! There were great performances from Muse, Stevie Wonder and Dizzee Rascal, keeping the thousands of people excited throughout the whole 4 days.
Stevie Wonder recently celebrated his 60th birthday, and showed in his recent performances that he has definitely still got it. He also headlined at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park, along with Paul McCartney and Pearl Jam. Held on the same weekend as Glastonbury, music fans in London also enjoyed glorious sunshine. The stage stayed up in Hyde Park as it also played host to a Kings of Leon concert, the Serpentine Sessions featuring Laura Marling and the O2 Wireless festival. Taxis in London have certainly been kept busy over the last few weeks with all the festival excitement!
For many, festivals go hand in hand with boozing. It has become tradition to sit on the grass, drinking slightly warm beer from a plastic cup - and we love it! However, if there's not a designated driver, it's important to take public transport or to book a taxi to take you home. London cabs can be difficult to find at events like this because there is such a large crowd of people, so it's a good idea to book a cab online. You can either do this using an iphone, or by booking on your computer before you go.
Being organised at a festival always helps you to enjoy yourself more, with nothing to worry about while you're there. As well as booking a London taxi or arranging other transport, you need to remember the essentials like loo roll and your sleeping bag! With Bestival, The Secret Garden Party, V and Reading Festival still to come, the summer music festival season is far from over - if you haven't been to one yet, it's about time you did!
