Science Extravaganza at The Apollo
We’re used to bands and music artists going on tour. Thousands of people flock to hear their music in London minicabs, paying anywhere from a few pounds to a few hundred pounds to get their hands on a ticket. You can find some absolute bargains for a relatively unknown or local act, or battle it out in online auctions for the chance to see an international superstar. The venues across London are also used to hosting stand-up comedians to sell out crowds, and sometimes exhibitions for food, drink, home ware or franchises. The list goes on.
One thing that we’re not used to seeing up there on the stage is a bunch of scientists talking about physics. However, The Hammersmith Apollo is hosting a night of the UK’s first ever nation science tour! If you buy a ticket for tonight’s ‘Uncaged Monkeys’ show, you’ll be treated to a mix of entertainment and information about the universe. It comes on the back of the success of the television series ‘Wonders of the Solar System’, presented by Brian Cox; quite a step away from his original career as the keyboard player in D-ream! He has become a role-model for scientists, making the subject ‘trendy’ for the masses. He will be speaking alongside ‘Bad Science’ author Dr Ben Goldacre, and Simon Singh, who wrote ‘Trick or Treatment’. This trio of great minds will be giving live presentations and phenomenal projections, leaving their audience captivated.
To make sure nobody gets bored, the night is hosted by comedian Robin Ince, who brings just enough silliness to the mix to balance things out. Between the four of them, we’re sure that these uncaged monkeys will put on a great show! There are still some tickets left, so get a Hammersmith taxi down to The Apollo by 7pm to get yourself an exciting education.
