Wimbledon Useful Information
Wimbledon is a district in South West London. The name will ring a bell for people everywhere, because it is where the annual Tennis Championships take place; Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. Every June and July, people flock from all over the country and around the globe to watch the top tennis players compete against each other; the event is televised, and pulls in thousands of viewers. It has made the place name famous across the world, and has become an attraction for tourists and visitors to the area. Perhaps you can take a Wimbledon taxi there in the summer and treat yourself to some strawberries and cream!
You can get from Central London to Wimbledon on the London Underground; it’s the last stop on one of the District Line branches and runs all the way to Upminster in East London. You’ll also find regular bus services running, and private Wimbledon minicabs operating around the clock. Taking cabs in Wimbledon can be preferable to taking public transport, especially if you’re not a fan of overcrowding or if you have something heavy to carry; they are a very efficient way of travelling.
These days, properties in Wimbledon are highly sought after. This is mainly because of its prime location; close enough to the city to be considered part of London with easy transport links, but far enough out that you don’t get caught up in the hustle and bustle and rush hour traffic. Some people find the city’s fast pace of life quite stressful, so they prefer not to live right in the hub of it, whereas others thrive off the constant buzz! Wimbledon has that perfect balance, giving you the best of both worlds.
You don’t need to travel into Central London to take advantage of a wide range of facilities - there are plenty of places to go in Wimbledon. If you’re eating out, choose from a variety of cafes, restaurants and bistros (bear in mind that you may need to make a reservation while the tennis is on - the area gets very busy). For a drink, there are bars and pubs around the district; just remember to drink responsibly, and book a Wimbledon taxi in SW19 to get you home safely. You can also catch West End Productions on at the New Wimbledon Theatre, and during the day there are plenty of shops to visit in the Centre Court Shopping Centre. You won’t be short of things to do here; it’s popular with people of all ages, families, friends and couples.
