Temple Useful Information
Temple is an area in central London; it lies on the border of the City of Westminster and the City of London. Historically this has been one of the capital’s main legal districts, and today is still a centre for English law. You’ll find many of the city’s biggest law firms based here, so don’t be surprised if there’s more of your fair share of power suits on these pavements!
Temple has some interesting history dating back prior to 1161; the Knights Templar created this street as a new lane to connect from their old temple (now where the Southampton Buildings are in Holborn) to the south of Fleet Street, now known as Temple. You can even still see Temple Church here, which was built in the 12th century. It’s a popular tourist attraction, as it was once the English headquarters for the Knights Templar. Although it was damaged during the second world war, it has now been restored. You can visit it by going to the nearby Temple tube station, which is just a short walk from the site. Here, you can take the Circle and District lines on the London Underground. Another option is to book one of the minicabs Temple has to offer; these run around the clock, and can take you anywhere within Greater London. WC2 taxis in Temple are a cheap and reliable way to travel, making them a popular method of transport with both tourists and professionals in this area.
Temple pier is on Victoria Embankment, where you can find the HQS Wellington permanently moored. London has many different piers along the River Thames; they don’t have the same amusements and tourist attractions as Brighton or Blackpool, but still enable some beautiful views of the city. Driving through London in EC4 Temple cabs is also a great way to do some speed sight seeing; there is simple too much to get through in one day, so you can navigate your way round some of the most famous landmarks this way. Just don’t forget your camera!
One of the most popular destinations near Temple tube station is Somerset House. This majestic building and courtyard host many events, from fashion shows and exhibitions, to outdoor concerts and cinema. Over the Christmas period there is an ice rink sponsored by Tiffany and Co, which draws people from all over the city. Also nearby, you’ll find the Southbank Centre and the Hayward Gallery. In central areas like this, you will never be short of things to do; there is a great selection of bars, restaurants and hotels scattered around. Whether you’re a local resident, a legal professional or a visitor to the city, take advantage of the temple minicab services for easy travel.
