Richmond Useful Information
Located on the far West side of London, Richmond is a beautiful and affluent area. It is right on the end of one of the District Line branches, so you are able to get there via London Underground - some buses also run there. However, many of the residents and visitors here prefer to take Richmond taxis in TW10 to get around; it is a fair way from the city, so walking is not an option!
In the centre of the small town, there are many shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. You’ll find quaint independent boutiques selling trinkets such as jewellery and gifts, and large brand retailers like Reiss, Karen Millen and Marks and Spencers. If you have the money to spend, you’ll be in a shopper’s paradise here without having to take on the hoards of Oxford Street or Westfields, however don’t expect to find any bargain basement shops here.
The riverside is a popular spot with the locals, as it gives some beautiful views across the water. There are benches lined along the grass slope, allowing you to take in the weeping willow trees and the bridge over the River Thames. You can have a picnic here weather permitting, or if it’s too cold to brave the elements you can get the same views from the surrounding bars. In the summer, ice cream vans do great business in this place! It’s a favourite for couples, families and friends, offering something for everyone.
Another great aspect about this area is Richmond Park - the largest Royal Park in London. It is three times as big as Central Park in New York! The stunning green open space is home to more than 600 red and fallow deer, amongst other wildlife. If you’re patient, you can catch a glimpse of them. Many people who live in central London take cabs to Richmond in order to relax in this vast park, escaping the busy city life and revelling in the tranquility here.
On Saturdays, Richmond has a farmer’s market; here you can buy fruit and vegetables, meats, dairy products and baked goods. It would be a nice day out if you are visiting the area; Richmond minicabs in TW9 run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so are always available for your journey. You may also want to go to the theatre while you’re there, or discover one of the enchanting cafes down the cobbled side streets. Richmond has a lot to offer, and has become one of the most desirable places to live in London.
