Piccadilly Circus Useful Information
When you first lay eyes on Piccadilly Circus, it’s exactly what you would imagine a major city centre to look like. The huge light up billboards wouldn’t be out of place in Tokyo, and the buildings are so high that you have to strain your neck to see the top. There are fountains and memorials, red double-decker buses and hot-dog stands on the pavements. All around the area you’ll find shops selling London trinkets for tourists, with the words ‘I LOVE LONDON’ emblazoned across mugs, bags and t-shirts. It’s London in a nutshell!
The name refers to the main junction in the West End, which is situated in the City of Westminster; very central in the city. It lies between Soho, Leicester Square and Regent Street, which runs down to Oxford Street. These places are all within easy walking distance; when you take the London underground everywhere, it’s easy to forget how close together some locations are! If you’re sightseeing, it’s a good idea to take one of the taxis Piccadilly Circus has to offer; that way, you can look out the window and not miss a thing. Some people like to ride on open top buses when they’re sight seeing; this is great during the summer months, but not so feasible when it’s freezing outside! There are also plenty of bus stations, including some night buses that run around the clock. If you’re heading to Piccadilly Circus, prepare yourself for it to be busy; the name itself has become synonymous with thriving places! With so many things to do and places to see, it’s one of the London locations that must be visited.
