Latimer Road Useful Information
As any good W10 taxi driver will be able to tell you, Latimer Road tube station, despite its name, is not in fact on Latimer Road, which lies some half a kilometre away. In fact, it can be found on the corner of Bramley Road and Shalfleet Drive. Being on both the Hammersmith And City and Circle lines, it is very well-situated to provide easy access to the rest of London, whether by tube, or using a Latimer Road taxi service.
Many attractions are nearby Latimer Road station, and easily reachable from a taxi in W10. If shopping is you bag (so to speak), the nearby White City area boasts the relatively new Westfield shopping centre. This huge shopping mall is soon to be sistered to a second branch on the other side of town in Stratford, but until then, it is one of the largest indoor shopping malls in the capital.
Nearby, you will also find the sprawling Wormwood Scrubs (known locally simply as “The Scrubs”), which is one of the largest areas of common land in London, and classified by English Nature as an important site of natural significance, but is probably even better known for the infamous Wormwood Scrubs prison, whose front face will be recognizable to anyone familiar with the classic hit sitcom Porridge, starring Ronnie Barker and Richard Beckinsale (though the TV show was set in the fictional Slade prison).
For those of a sporting disposition, the Linford Christie Sports Stadius is also nearby, named for Olympic gold medallist of the same name, and home of the famous Thames Valley Harriers athletics team, as well as several local hockey and rugby teams including PHC Chiswick and London Nigerian RFC.
The Notting Hill area is also just a short drive away by taxi from Latimer Road, and this area, already famous for the annual Notting Hill Carnival, and made even more famous by Richard Curtis’s romantic comedy film Notting Hill, starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, should certainly be familiar to you. It is also a great place to visit, especially on a Saturday, when the Portabello Road Market is doing business, its stalls selling all manner of antiques, collectibles and fresh food.
The surrounding area of North Kensington includes all manner of interesting attractions, and as it boasts the largest population of Moroccan descent in the country, is also a great place to sample a huge range of great North African cafés and cuisine.
