Ladbroke Grove Useful Information
Ladbroke Grove is the name of a road in West London, and it also refers to the surrounding area. You’ll find it the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea - a particularly affluent part of London. In recent years it has become very popular due to its proximity to trendy Notting Hill, and it’s one of the streets that hosts the famous annual Notting Hill Carnival. If you happen to be there on the August bank holiday, be prepared for thousands of people celebrating in the street!
Where the road crosses with Westway, you’ll find the London Underground station for Ladbroke Grove; here you can take the Circle line or the Hammersmith and City line. Holland Park station is also nearby, on the central line. This is a fast and cheap method of transport, but can get very busy during rush hour. The tubes also stop running overnight, so if you’re travelling at this time, it’s a good idea to book a Ladbroke Grove taxi to complete your journey. There is also a bus service that runs around the clock from various points in the area, so you have a choice of transport. Ladbroke Grove minicabs can either be booked for immediate bookings or in advance, offering a flexible service.
Until mid-way through the nineteenth century, Ladbroke Grove was just rural land to the West of London; James Weller Ladbroke developed the area, which is how it inherited its name. Today it is quite the opposite; a thriving residential and commercial area, which attracts tourists from all over the world. It’s the nearest tube station if you’re planning to go to Portobello Road Market, whether it’s the stalls selling fruit and vegetables on week days, or the antiques on a Saturday. Locals also enjoy browsing through the treasures found there.
If you’re not from London, you may have heard of Ladbroke Grove in the news when there was a tragic train crash in 1999. There were thirty one fatalities, with a further 520 injured due to the head on collision with another train. This kind of accident is very rare, but some still prefer to use Ladbroke Grove taxis instead of the train.
There are plenty of great places to eat, drink and shop in Ladbroke Grove. From quaint cafes to chic restaurants, and traditional pubs to modern bars, you won’t be short of places to visit here. There is also a variety of accommodation options, such as hotels and Bed and Breakfasts that are the perfect base when you’re exploring the city.
