Harrow Useful Information
Harrow is a lovely, leafy suburb situated about 10 miles from Central London (just a stone’s throw, in the grand scheme of things). Those who live in the area love the proximity to the city, without the overflow of hectic London life! It’s far enough away that you get peaceful countryside villages, but close enough that you can easily travel into town. It’s a popular location for business people who commute into London for work, but prefer to live a quiet life in the suburbs.
If you’re just visiting, you’ll find plenty of accommodation that’s good value for money. There are several hotels and B&Bs to choose from, most of which have free parking. If you’re not driving, there are plenty of transport options; Harrow taxis are regularly booked to take a trip into town, or to surrounding areas. It’s a particularly good idea to book a minicab in Harrow if you’re not exactly sure where you’re going, or if the route looks difficult to complete using public transport
In Harrow, there are three London Underground stations on the Metropolitan Line: Harrow-on-the-Hill, North Harrow and West Harrow stations. South Harrow tube station is on the Piccadilly Line. There are also National Rail overground services, and regular bus services, with the main bus station opposite Harrow-on-the-Hill Underground station.
Harrow has a rich heritage; Headstone Manor is the only one with a moat in the whole of Middlesex -- it dates back to the 14th century. Winston Churchill attended the prestigious school here, on the hill. Property prices can fetch over £1,000,000, so you can get an idea of how affluent and desirable the area is! Dotted around the villages, you’ll find quaint teashops where you can take afternoon tea. It’s the perfect way to spend a day.
On the second Sunday of every month, Harrow Museum holds the Duck Pond Market; here there are a selection of hot food stalls, as well as live music to make it feel like a festival. It’s well worth a visit if you’re in the area at the right time. Other activities you can partake in include Bollywood at the Safari Cinema, which shows a selection of Indian films, or the Vue Cinema complex if you prefer Hollywood titles. Shows also take place in the residence of W.S Gilbert, where you can see the best works of Gilbert and Sullivan.
There are many award-winning restaurants in Harrow, which provide a fantastic dining experience. If you like to stick to places you know, you’ll find popular chains such as Cafe Rouge and Pizza Express. Remember to book a taxi in Harrow to complete your night out. All in all, there’s a little bit of everything!
