Bayswater Useful Information
If you want to stay in one of the most cosmopolitan places in London, Bayswater is an excellent choice. It’s particularly popular with tourists and business people due to the large number of hotels here; you can choose anything from a bargain Bed and Breakfast such as the London Elizabeth Hotel in Lancaster Terrace, to a luxury 5* hotel such as the Baglioni Hotel in Hyde Park Gate. There’s something to suit almost any budget, so you certainly won’t be short of choices.
It is situated on the border of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the City of Westminster, in West London. The central location makes it the ideal base when you want to see the sights and landmarks; Bayswater taxis are accustomed to taking their passengers to all the famous spots nearby. As well as having the option of Bayswater minicabs, there are also several public transport options. For the London Underground, there are tube stations at Bayswater, Lancaster Gate, Queensway and Royal Oak, and from here you can connect to practically anywhere in the city. There are also buses that run regularly around the clock; if you’re travelling at night, do be sure to check that your route runs a night bus service.
Bayswater is made up of pleasant streets lined with Victorian terraced houses, and pretty garden squares. The property prices vary quite dramatically, with studio flats on the lower end of the market and expensive apartments at the high end. Many celebrities have chosen to reside here, from singers Sting and Damon Albarn, to politicians such as Tony Blair and Winston Churchill, actor Keira Knightly and TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson. If it’s good enough for names like that, Bayswater must have quite some appeal!
For the shoppers, Whiteleys Shopping Centre is the place to go, with the entrance located on Queensway. Here there are plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars, so you can easily make a day of it. Marble Arch is also close by, where you’ll find cheap high street stores like Primark, just a short walk from Oxford Circus. Queensway and Westbourne Grove have an especially good selection of ethnic cuisine, which is popular with the multicultural society. Towards Edgware Road you’ll find a large Arab population, and many Greeks are attracted to the area by the Greek Orthadox Cathedral here. In the community, there are also many Brazilians, Americans and British natives.
For a real taste of London, visit Bayswater; it’s right at the hub of it all. Wherever you’d like to go from here, book a taxi in Baywater to get you there for easy transportation.
